We present a method to measure continuous-wave ferromagnetic resonance FMR spectra based on
. r( I. T( Y% ^/ s* A. s& M6 }the core-level absorption of circularly polarized x rays. The technique is demonstrated by using a
4 W9 ]6 Q( `, Z( z' G( F/ A5 ymonochromatic x-ray beam incident on an yttrium–iron–garnet sample excited by a microwave field: k/ i$ h% h& ]. F' C' w- ~
at 2.47 GHz. FMR spectra are obtained by monitoring the x-ray absorption intensity at the photon
% W. m( J d9 f7 y9 x, E& B/ Henergy corresponding to the maximum of the magnetic circular dichroism effect at the iron L2,3
/ y5 w: v# o! f2 z! M7 uedges as a function of applied magnetic field. The x-ray FMR signal is shown to be energy9 ^) Z% X% ~& k# R4 n9 I& l( }6 D
dependent, which makes the technique element sensitive and opens up new possibilities to perform
